Western Area Battle 2014 – John Williams best print
The Western Area battle was fought at Cleator Moor in November 2014. The opposing forces were the 8 camera clubs forming the Western Area of the Northern Counties Photographic Federation; that is: Dumfries, Carlisle, Morton, Workington, Copeland, West Cumbria Photo Group, Keswick and Penrith
The Battle is an annual contest, with each club marshaling 6 prints and 6 digital images. The arbiter for the 2014 event was judge Adrian Lines MPAGB EFIAP ARPS FBPE from North Wales. Adrian is a highly experienced international judge and competitor and before the competition gave a very impressive lecture on his work.
The collective scores from each club decide the winning club with Dumfries coming top in both sections and winning overall and similarly Keswick coming second. Penrith came 5th in both the print and digital sections. There is an award for both the top print and digital image: our own John Williams won the crystal decanter for the best print in the battle “Snow on the Pier”
